To accelerate renewable energy use in the Philippines, the technical staff of the National Power Corporation (NPC) and the National Electrification Administration (NEA) were trained in the newest version of the ASEP- developed simplified planning tool (SPT) in preparation for the full implementation of the Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) today, March 28, 2019 at the National Power Corporation. The Department of Energy Department Circular No. DC 2018-08-0024 on RPS mandates that all generators and distributors of rural electricity must obtain a minimum share of their supply from clean, renewable energy sources.
The SPT is an open source software that helps determine the “sweet spot” where the blending of generation from Renewable Energy (RE) resources and conventional fuels leads to lower generation costs and lower subsidy requirements from the Universal Charge – Missionary Electrification (UC-ME) Program.
ASEP experts Dr. Philipp Blechinger and Mr. Paul Bertheau from the Reiner Lemoine Institut, Berlin, were the key resource persons for the activity.
Looking forward to cleaner energy for the country!
