The project’s objective is to increase and extend the availability of electricity service in the island municipalities of Sitangkai and Sibutu through renewable energy hybridization of the island grids. To demonstrate the importance of the water-energy-food nexus, the installation of the renewable energy hybrid systems will integrate the assessment and design of appropriate water supply systems. The energy component of the action will also be integrated with the plans and programs of the local government to deliver community social and welfare services, thus improving the quality of life in the seaweed farming communities. On top of this, RETS will explore the application of appropriate decentralized RE systems along the seaweed value chain in nearby municipalities of Panglima Sugala, Tandubas, and Sapa-sapa.

Residente ng Tawi Tawi , Beneficiary of UNIDO RETS Project

The RETS project presents a challenge but at the same time, the project would build the capacity of the Electric Cooperative and our employees. We also look forward to being able to provide more reliable and sustainable power supply and extended 24/7 electricity service to the communities in these far-flung areas of the country, especially the seaweed farmers.
